December news

The months are going by fast, 2021 will soon be here!  As the weather gets colder please remember to send warm outer wear for you child  (we also go out twice a day for our mask breaks).

We are rolling along with our letters and sight words, the kids continue to amaze me with all they are taking in!  We have 22 sight words on our word wall and 4 more letters to learn!

We will have our winter class parties on December 21st and 22nd (reminder Cohort B will come to school on Tuesday, December 22).

Next week your child will bring home information about a special "note" for you to write and include in his/her snack bag for the party.  Be on the lookout for it,  you will put the special note in the snack bag that's brought to school.

I hope you have a wonderful winter vacation week with your child.  We all have a lot to be grateful for even under these "circumstances".  I am grateful for the 2 great groups of kids I have and all their patient, understanding families.  Enjoy the together time (hopefully there's a little quiet time mixed in as well).  :)

Happy New Year!  2021!

November news

We continue to learn new letters each week!  So far we have learned t,b,f,m,n,i,o,c,u,a,g,d, and s.  We practice printing them on our whiteboards and say the "letter, picture and sound".

We've worked on rhyming and syllables (those are always great to revisit at home.)  Say 2 words and see if your child can tell you if they rhyme or not, you can also say a word and see if your child can produce a rhyme.  Clapping parts out in a word can be practiced in the car, the bathtub etc

We're also learning number poems to help us with the formation of the numbers.  Ask your child to share the poems with you as s/he prints the numbers.  We are constantly counting objects/pictures and I always remind them to use a "system" to help them.  I model crossing out the pictures as I count so I don't count one twice or skip one.

Our Wednesday zoom meetings have been used for SEL (Social emotional learning), we talk about the theme of the month (November is kindness) and also for science.  We have been talking about weather/trees.  On Oct 28th we did a "candy corn" experiment.  I put a piece of candy corn in 4 different liquids to see what would happen.  The kids drew pictures of their predictions. I dropped the candy in the cups in front of the children and then took pictures 6 hours later.  This is what happened...

Pretty cool!  The kids made some great predictions!

The weather is getting chillier please remember to send your child with a warm coat, hat, gloves for our outdoor mask breaks, recess, and for days they have gym.

October news

We've been busy with learning 2 new letters a week, printing them and practicing their sounds.  We've also been counting, using number poems to help us form the numbers and discussing the concepts equal, greater than and less than.  Everyone is also doing a great job on the virtual notebooks!

Here we are taking advantage of the beautiful weather!   Cohort A

Cohort B

Looking forward to seeing everyone on our zoom meeting on Wednesday, Oct 28th!  Your child may wear his/her costume, we'll listen to some Halloween stories/songs, play a "ghost flipping" game and do a science experiment with candy corn!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

We've had a great week so far!  Everyone is doing well with following the directions, being respectful (just like Ryan the Respectful Mouse), and getting into the routine!
Reminder if you haven't returned the blue health form please do so.
