December

The months are going by fast, 2022 will soon be here!  As the weather gets colder please remember to send warm (labeled) outer wear for you child.

We are rolling along with our letters and sight words, the kids continue to amaze me with all they are taking in!   Here we are doing a "turn and talk" reading our writer's workshop stories!  We talk about using finger spaces, an uppercase letter at the beginning, and a period at the end.

This week we have been comparing and contrasting different versions of the Gingerbread Man so many great stories!  We've talked about how the "characters" are the same/different, how the "setting" is the same/different and how the ending is the same or different as other ones.  It has been a lot of fun!

Pajama Day is this Friday, the 17th.  We will also be having our class winter party on the 23rd (half day).  Please send your child to school with a "party in a bag" for snack (the bag can be decorated with some treats inside).

For those who celebrate, have a wonderful holiday!  I hope you enjoy some down time, get to relax and spend some quality time with your family doing the things you love!

Thank you for all you do!  I appreciate all your support!

November news

Starting out the month of November with "Fun Friday"!

In addition to reading How Full is Your Bucket we read Have you Filled a Bucket Today?  We've been talking a lot about how we can fill others' buckets and how we feel when our own bucket is full or empty.  Hopefully you'll be noticing some bucket filling at home.  I'll be on the lookout at school!!

Silly hair day and digital citizenship

We had some great silly hair in our class!!  Mohawks, colored spray, and silly styles!  On the same day, the boys and girls got to listen to a story about taking a break from technology called Unplugged.  Mrs. Farrahar (our librarian) and Mrs. Foley (technology integration specialist) talked to them about the effects of staying on devices too long and how it is good to unplug and take a break!

October news

It's hard to believe it's already October!  The kids are getting into the swing of things....learning the rules, expectations and the layout of the building!  We have been working hard learning new letters each week (t,f,b,m,n,i, and u) so far!  We're working on the formation (refer to the Fundations sheets that come home each week to help your child practice) and the sounds.  We've been working on fine motor skills each day (cutting, gluing, holding a pencil).  The 1st Fundation sheet that went home shows the proper pencil grasp for reference.   In addition to learning letters we are also learning to print numbers, count, and one to one correspondence.  I've shown the kids that they can use a "system" when they're counting (crossing off items as they count) to make sure they don't skip or count one twice.  We will start comparing numbers and quantities soon.

We've also been working on being a good friend, a good listener, and showing respect (like Ryan the Respectful mouse does).  Please continue to reinforce these concepts at home.  :)

I am putting together a contact information sheet.  If you prefer not to be on this list, just let me know.

Stay tuned for more information regarding Halloween, our parade will be on 10/29 at 9:15.  🎃

Here is a note from our art teacher, Mrs. Foley...

Dear K Families,

My name is Tricia Foley and I am your child's art teacher this year! Our artists have learned that their finished work will live in their portfolios, here at school, until the end of the school year. As you can imagine, this is a little tricky for our hard-working Kindergarteners! If you'd like to see a sneak peek of the projects your artists are creating, please visit my website, Art with Mrs. Foley. Here you can learn more about me as well as our "Awesome Artist Award". Later in the year there will be updates posted regarding our spring art show. Please feel free to connect with me directly if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you and enjoy!

Warmly,
Tricia Foley

Even during indoor recess on Monday we still had smiles under our masks!!
