October has flown by! We had a great time seeing AND touching real ocean animals at the Ocean World program!
We've been learning new letters each week. So far we have learned the letters t,f,b,m,n,i,u,g,a,d,s, e, and r. They are doing a great job at using their "best guess" spelling. You'll notice in their writing there may not be too many vowels, we are trying to write down the sounds we hear. The beginning sound is usually the easiest to figure out then we stretch out the word and listen for other sounds. I use a rubber band to show them how to stretch out the words. We've been doing some interactive writing where the kids will take turns coming up with all the parts of a story (one story was bout a lion jumping out of his cage at the zoo and another about a fall day playing and going in a pool). I'm stretching the words out as I write them and volunteers have been coming up to fill in letters/sight words. The sight words we've added to our wall are
mom, I, in, is, it, the, to, do, dad, a, am,, and, at and
can.
In math we have been working on printing the numbers 0-10, using number poems to help us, counting groups of objects and making combinations of 5 (2,3/1,4/0,5 for example) and making combinations of 10 (which is very tricky!)
